SUMMER LESSON PROGRAM KICK-OFF

Sunday, June 7, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., at Rancho Cañada Golf Club, (In the Fiesta Ballroom) will be hosting our 20th Annual Summer Lesson Program Kick-off event open to all interested junior members.  The purpose is to sign up juniors who wish to take a series of five FREE group lessons (maximum of 5 juniors in a group) with local golf professionals during the summer.  Last year 400+ junior golfers took advantage of this program with 50+ golf professionals participating in Monterey County.

Sign-up tables will show the LOCATION of the various GOLF COURSES.  The golf professionals will be listed under their Golf Course.   The golf professionals will list when and where their five lessons will take place. When a golf professional has a total of 5 juniors for the lesson series, we cross his name off the list.   We cannot guarantee juniors will have the same instructor they had last year, as sign-ups are on a first-come basis.

This is always a fun-filled afternoon with friends to sign-up for summer lessons!  You must be there (parent, guardian or junior golfer) to participate in these free lessons.  See you there!!!

 GREEN FEES FOR KIDS...

We are happy to present junior golfers who have completed their Skills Evaluation clinic with a great golf opportunity again this year.  Upon request, we will  mail you (two) GREEN FEES FOR KIDS coupons and two Bucket of Balls Coupons in June which entitle you to play golf for FREE at any participating golf courses on your coupon until October 31. This coupon is a privilege given to members of the Association.  If you are a beginning golfer and have not developed the skills you need to play on a golf course, please take advantage of our clinics, the summer lesson program and practice before you use the coupons.

Our Association is in joint membership with the First Tee of Monterey County and Salinas Valley Junior Golf. This partnership allows each organization to enjoy the best each has to offer by offering a single membership application process.  You can sign up by calling our office at 625-1555, or go online to www.thefirsteemc.org, and follow the links to the membership procedures.

Our Heartfelt Thanks

The AT&T Pebble Beach Junior Golf Association is sincerely grateful to The Monterey Peninsula Foundation’s long-term support. They continue to play an essential role in the growth and success of our association.

We would also like to express our appreciation by thanking the many people and businesses who have graciously supported our programs. We want you to know how much this means to us, for it would be difficult to continue without you. We welcome you to attend our events.

Our sincere thanks to Bill Sendell, Director of Tournaments for the Pebble Beach Company, AT&T Pebble Beach Junior Golf Board Member and our Summer Tournament Director, who continues his fantastic job of making sure each tournament is well run and enjoyed by all. Bill’s assistant this year is Tobin Barth.

We also thank Golf Professional and Board member, Justin Russo, who manages all our Skills Evaluation and Instructional Clinics at Rancho Cañada and is our Winter Golf Tournament Director. We have divided each junior by skill level to make it equitable for all players and to encourage the spirit of competition. All junior golfers who wish to compete in our Junior Tournaments are required to complete a skills evaluation test.

We would like to thank the Peter Hay Golf Course, Rancho Cañada Golf Club, Laguna Seca Golf Club, Del Monte Golf Course, Pacific Grove Golf Course, Corral de Tierra Golf Club, Golf Club at Quail, Poppy Hills Golf Course, Carmel Valley Ranch, The Preserve Golf Course, Links at Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill Golf Course for hosting the “Summer Tournaments.” The facilities were top notch, the courses terrific and the staff was gracious and accommodating. We cannot express fully how much these tournaments mean to the kids.

As you know, none of our events would be possible without the assistance of our dedicated volunteers. Words can’t say enough of how very grateful we are to all of you who answer the call to help register and score for our ongoing tournaments.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Junior Golf Association thanks the Monterey Herald, Jerry Sturant and Ken Merfeld for printing so many wonderful articles recognizing our many junior golfers who throughout the year have appeared and placed in competition on the links. Congratulations! Please visit our website at attpbjrgolf.com for all final results of our tournaments.

Thank you all for your continued support.
Linda Tunney
Executive Director

We are proud that for 20 years our program has had a significant impact on shaping the life styles of so many junior golfers, by helping them realize the positive rewards that come from playing golf and the reason for playing, the participation itself. Our continuing goal is to develop not only better golfers, but also better people.

We give special thanks to all our volunteers who generously donate their time throughout the year. The success and quality of our Junior Golf program continues to be the result of many dedicated and interested people.

For our tournaments to continue to succeed, there is a vital need for individuals, (parents, adults and older junior golf students) to score for the bronze and silver divisions. We recognize that some of you are happy and willing to volunteer but may not feel qualified to score therefore this year we are offering training.
