RULES & ETIQUETTE
Golf Course Outline
(Please keep in your Golf Bag)

Tee
- Equipment Scorecard/pencil (record scores from previous hole)
balls hand full of tees
ball marker in pocket
- Where to place bag - off teeing area
- Where to stand - to right of tee outside tee blocks
- Be ready before it's your turn
- "Honors" - player with lowest score goes first (or whoever is
ready)
- Be courteous - do not talk when other players are hitting
- Tee ball up within teeing ground behind tee blocks
- Swing safely always
- Watch ball until it stops rolling (you are responsible)
- "FORE" - warning to other players
- No mulligans - which means a second chance on a shot
Fairway
- Get to ball as quickly and safely as possible
- Ball furthest from green ("away") goes first
Others prepare for their shot
- Select club and be ready before it's your turn
- Place bag near your shot
- One Practice Swing - Remember, swing safely always
- "FORE" - warning
- Always replace divots
- Temper control - Never throw a club
- Always rake fairway traps; leave bag outside trap
- PATIENCE - wait until it's clear to hit
Green
- Place bag on side of green on the way to the next hole
- Fix ball marks
- Mark ball correctly with marker when your ball is in another's visual line when you clean ball
- Observe other balls on green check and walk around others "line of putt" watch shadows across "line of putt"
- Stand away from players who are putting
- Flag must be out or attended when on putting green
- ATTENDING FLAGSTICK closest ball pulls or tends flag watch shadows flag stick - how to hold, where to stand, how to take out of cup where to place flag stick
- After ball goes into hole, take ball out
- Repair spike marks when leaving green
- Always be courteous and quiet when others are putting

Back spin: When the ball hits the green and spins back towards the player.
Birdie: Score of one under par on a hole.
Chip: Very short, low-flying shot to green.
Divot: Turf displaced by clubhead during swing.
Fade: Shot that curves gently from left to right.
Lay-up: Conservatively played shot to avoid possible trouble.

Etiquette Test

As of August 2001, over 1,055 junior golfers have completed their Etiquette tests. If you are on a golf team, your golf coach can give you the test…just call the office (625-1555) and we will mail the test outline to you. Remember, in order to participate in our tournaments, you must pass the etiquette test.
